C.V. - Exhibitions

As an artist and digital creative, Shane is as comfortable in the code as he is behind (and in front of) the camera. He utilizes and creates tools of a 21st century artist.

Perhaps the thousands of hours spent working with the digital tools were merely preparation and practice, enabling me to move comfortably and efficiently in both the physical and digital mediums: iPhone, iPad, DSLR, computer, paints, and canvas.

Shane was born in Puerto Rico in 1966. He received a B.F.A. in Studio Ceramics, Sculpture, and Drawing from the University of Iowa, University of Iowa School of Art and Art History. He currently lives and works in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

The Genres of Shane Robinson

Photography: ICM Abstracts
These photographs are created by experimenting with Intentional Camera Movement (ICM). Shane lets the environment speak to him through the camera, capturing the object’s essence in ways not visible to the human eye. What you see comes directly from the camera without further manipulation. These works of art tap into more subtle energies and often illustrate invisible relationships between subject and viewer. He photographs familiar Hawaiiana yet his results are abstract and contemporary – unlike traditional Hawaiian representational art. This work is collected internationally and is available in both limited and open editions.

Digital Art
These photographs are taken with the iPhone and edited on the iPhone and/or iPad, by using several apps and layering numerous images. This often takes as many as 1500 different “actions” or steps in the process, including digital painting by hand. The results are living, breathing, digital creations that represent the leading artistic medium of our time. His subjects range from composited nudes and nature, to purely textural “appstracts” and color fields.

Acrylic on Panel and Canvas
Shane also creates original paintings, working in acrylics, dye transfer, and resin. He explores color and texture as themes, and often imposes strict parameters on his work to explore the creativity that comes from limitation. As a former fine furniture builder, he also makes all of his own canvases, panels, and frames.
