I created the “Rapport” series of work for my first solo show at the Hui No‘eau Visual Arts Center in August, 2014. The Rapport series consists of individual panels, each painted separately and without consideration for any other panels. Once I feel an individual panel is completed, it is set aside to fully dry. Once I’ve created 20-30 panels of various sizes, I then begin to randomly hang them together to see which panels have a “rapport,” work together, and want to live together permanently. The panels are then bolted together and become a single, original work.
The material is a custom mix of acrylic medium, plaster, and pigments that I have developed through experimentation. It provides a semi-matte surface and is wonderfully sand-able and carve-able, unlike regular acrylic medium.
This is an ongoing and evolving series.
